The Town Crier was a traditional sight in towns and cities across the nation for almost 400 years, until as late as the mid 19th Century.
The Crier was the World Wide Web, BBC, CNN and newspaper of his day... when printing was in it's infancy, and so few were able to read and write.
His clear, booming, voice brought pronouncements from the Lord of the Manor with tidings of happy events... and the odd tax rise, so a sense of humour was often an essential defence!

Although his civic role is now purely ceremonial, the Crier plays a very important part in promoting his adopted town, city or county as a very public, and often international, ambassador.
In modern times, the local Town Crier is a celebrity figure, in huge demand to PROMOTE BUSINESSES within his district... and as a Master of Ceremonies at WEDDINGS & CIVIL PARTNERSHIPS
